If it swims, we can show you how to catch it with a fly!

Are you coming from out of town, and want to experience the best fly fishing Oregon has to offer? Are you looking to improve your techniques for catching larger rainbows, or do you simply want to improve your casting while using heavy nymphs? Have you been fly fishing for steelhead, and think that they are nothing more than a mythological fish that your friend’s friend caught once, by accident, a couple of years ago? Do you find yourself using all of the right flies, yet you still cannot figure out why you are not catching fish? The McKenzie Angler’s knowledgable and patient guides can help!

Our guides are experts on the local waters, always on top of the most current conditions and best fly fishing opportunites that our area has to offer. We focus our efforts on instructing; so no matter what the fish are doing, you will depart with knowledge as well as photos of your fish! At the McKenzie Angler, we want to teach you to effectively pursue the fish that you are after; so you can put this knowledge to use later on your own! Our goal is to help beginners with their start into fly fishing and to better the seasoned experts; all while catching fish and having fun!

The McKenzie and the Willamette Rivers are our main fisheries, as they are quite near our shop and not too far from Eugene/Springfield. We target trout and steelhead on these trips.

  • In addition to our trout and steelhead trips, we offer specialty trips on a seasonal basis. Such trips include smallmouth bass and shad on the mainstem Umpqua, fall chinook (see picture above!) on coastal rivers, and winter steelhead on small streams! Due to the extremely variable conditions and small windows of opportunity to target these fish, we urge you to inquire about what special fly fishing opportunities may be occuring at the time you are interested in taking a trip. Especially with winter steelhead and fall chinook, a flexible schedule and the ability to time a trip right has the potential to produce some magical fly fishing memories!

We can also assist you in booking trips to Oregon’s famous Lower Deschutes and North Umpqua Rivers, along with other blue-ribbon systems around the state!
